Excellent, but ...
I familiarized myself with this device on my 2nd floor terrace with no view of Polaris and limited tree blocked sky view. I normally take the scope out to a local park or darkish sites for actual observing. With the AVX mount rough aligned to Polaris and using one star alignment I used to 'Impatient Instructions'. Along the way there were glitches, all related to operator error, none serious. Help is well written including a troubleshooting guide which was helpful for a 'star moved too little' error message. The camera is sensitive with a wide field, so finding a star is easy. With star focuse

SSAG and Windows 8/8.1
I haven't been able to get this out under the stars yet to test it's accuracy and how it works with PHD2 because I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET THIS TO BE RECOGNIZED IN WINDOWS 8.1! I have a brand new Dell laptop, which is supposed to have one USB 3.0 port on it, but I haven't been able to get the computer to recognize the camera at all. On a Windows 7 computer, with the same drivers on a USB 2.0 port, the camera works flawlessly, but I'm not going to drag my desktop computer out to my viewing site. So, consider this a 'Warning.' If you have Windows 8/8.1, you MAY be in for a rough ride ahead of y

Versatile
I mounted one of these on my Orion 10" Newtonian OTA, and it guided the CG-5 mount perfectly. I was able to track exposures of over 10 minutes with absolutely perfect sub-zero precision. I often participate in public viewings with my astronomy club, so I just replace the camera with a 90 degree mirror tube and an eyepiece, then use the unit as a finderscope. I also own an Orion Short-tube 80 and, because the Magnificent Autoguider mounts on a standard viewfinder mount, I use the Magnificent Mini to autoguide that as well. Finally, I sometimes need to autoguide my Newtonian, but using projectio

Does the job!
This was my first autoguider package, though I've been a visual observer for a little over 17 years. The package works and does the job well. Connection to my Atlas EQ-G mount was painless and simple. The software is a breeze to use and well-known in the AP community if you ever need help, too... but I doubt you will-- it's just that easy to use. I do think it's a little expensive for what it is, but I can't complain when comparing it to the cost of other options. The only thing I'd wish for is a bit more adjustability in the guide scope mount. I'm used to the two-ring, six-screw style of moun

Easy, Elegant and Light Guiding Solution
I bought this for use with an Orion ED80 as the imaging scope on a Sirius mount. I was not disappointed. Everything worked as described. I use this with a netbook with windows XP. The netbook has no CD drive, so I just downloaded the camera drivers from Orion's website and downloaded PHD guiding from the stark labs website (it's free). In PHD guiding, I set RA aggressiveness to 120%, hysterisis to 20% and the calibration step to 2000. I got perfectly round stars with 5 minute exposures. I'm sure longer exposures would be fine as well, I just didn't try longer ones yet. Getting the autoguider f

Does what it says on the tin.
After living the with limitations of unguided imaging for a few years, I finally was able to come up with the dough to splurge on this product. It arrived (in two separate shipments from two different locations) well packed and in immaculate condition. Setup was easy. Focusing the camera was a quick and trivial operation. The changes made to the 50mm finder to make it suitable for guiding are minimal but quite adequate. The camera and PHD software work perfectly with my Macbook Pro laptop and vintage Losmandy G-11 mount. The one nit which needs to picked is the red LED on the camera. It's far

The right autoguider combo
Ok, consider my rating a 4 3/4 slightly less than excellent. My only complaint is the lack of a dew shield or having one available to buy. You can easily make one of your own though. The Excellent: Compact, light, efficient, easy to use, and does it's job well. Be sure to upgrade PHD to it's newest release, much better with version 1.13.5 than the included version. Some people have issue with the fact that the MM replaces their finder scope but my Sirius EQ-G GoTo solves that issue for me and I prefer it to be mounted there. I don't use my AP scope for observation but I can see where that migh

Easy to use and produces great results
I purchased this system as a beginning astrophotographer. I love its ease of use; you pretty much plug it, calibrate it and start guiding. It's nice and lightweight so it doesn't stress my mount. I also like that it slips on the attachment for my finderscope instead of requiring mounting rings and a piggybacking system. The auto guider itself is easy to focus and the guide scope finds plenty of guide stars. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone serious about astrophotography. The only con is that I often have to recalibrate when I switch targets, but that may be my mount's fault

Disappointment
Auto guider and guide scope arrived quickly and packaged well. My set-up was straight forward with no connection problems. Easy to download any of the programs from Orion's website. Getting it focused correctly was the only challenge. The disappointment has come from the weather. Spring in this part of Colorado isn't the best time of year. seems to be either snowing , raining or both. Only advice I have is to order it when you'll be able to get outside and use it.

seems like a quality unit
Both Guide camera and scope seem to be excellent and show great promise. The instructions are easy to follow. My only complaint so far is the unit came with following the instructions for downloading drivers for window 8.1 the unit came with written instructions to go to a web page to download curret drivers but the drivers would not install properly. The PHD site said that the Orion drivers were bad and a different set were posted on a different Orion web page these too turn out to have a bad installer. I had a friend who deals with problems like this and he was able to solve the issues and g

Great Value
I bought this AG package for use with a new Celestron C8 XLT. The adapters provided do NOT match the C8. Orion does sell the correct adapter so that was an additional expense. When I saw the scope and bracket I was skeptical that it could be mounted securely enough to provide accurate guiding, but I haven't had any problems. The PHD software is idiot proof and does a great job of guiding. I use a 6.3 reducer on my C8 and have not tested the SSAG at the native 2032mm focal length. The mag-mini 50 w/SSAG is a keeper.

Great value in an autoguiding package
I'm using the mini autoguider system with a German equitorial mount to guide the mount for photometric (brightness) measurements of variable stars. Before I had this system, I could expose for about 60 seconds unguided; with the autoguider, I can expose for as long as I want. A 5 minute (300 second) exposure gets me into the 15th magnitude range for measuring star magnitudes with a good signal to noise ratio. The system is lightweight, fits into existing finder brackets, and is easy to use. The PHD software provided with the system works very well. I wish there was a helical focuser on the 'sc

Everything you need for astrophotography autoguiding.
An inexpensive and reliable package that provides guide scope, camera and software for autoguiding from a laptop. Powerful and versatile but easy to use PHD guiding software included for both Windows and OS X. When using the included Orion Mini 50mm Guide Scope (with its short focal length of 162 mm) and an Orion Equatorial GoTo Telescope Mount, a helpful tip from the excellent Orion support: 1) In PHD, set the Calibration step to 1000 ms (from the default 750 ms) and 2) in the mount setup menu, change the Auto Guide Speed to 1.0 ms (from the default .75). Although there were at least a dozen

Lightweight, accurate, and simple to use!
Definitely impressed with this autoguider package! Setup took about 10 - 15 minutes from opening the box to aligned, focused, and calibrating on the first guide star of the night. No issues with PHD guiding or the autoguider drivers - just grab the latest versions from their respective websites. Using a Sirius mount, I've gone from 2 minute subs to 20 minutes with a small wide-field apo refractor and, surprisingly, up to 4 minutes on a larger Mak-Cass

Best guiding package on the market.
This is the second magnificent Mini autoguider set I have purchased. I especially like the small size, and the light weight. I use it on 80 and a 127mm triplet APO refractor, and on an 8" SCT, and lastly, on an f12 refractor. Works flawlessly. Highly recommended to anyone needing good, reliable autoguiding.

Good guiding, but needs more to become great
If you use as intended purely for autoguiding, this is great. But in my case, It now occupies the dovetail intended for the finderscope (celestron C5). The scope should be able to act as a finderscope but lacks backward travel by ~1inch for it to focus using an eyepiece. There is a 1 inch extension tube available though (Blue Fireball)

Easy to set up and use
I was amazed how quickly I was able to get this working. It truly is a plug-and-play device and has made my observing and imaging sessions so much more enjoyable. The included guide scope isn't too heavy, and works well with the guide camera once you get the hang of focusing. Definitely recommend this to anyone who may be looking for an autoguider.

Worked as advertised.
I unpacked the autoguider and scope and plugged in the cables. MaxImDL recognized the guider. I selected a 1 second continuous exposure for my camera, centered a star in the crosshair at 400% and started the guider. After 20 minutes the star was still centered in the crosshairs and the guiding log showed a continuous stream of corrections of < .2 , often < .05 in both X & Y. Very smooth.

Works very, very well.
I purchased this because of other fine reviews on Astro forums. I was not disappointed. It does the job well: ridiculously easy to install (just replaces the finder), very easy to find a good star to guide on, and well,, does the job and adds very little weight to your kit. Just what I wanted.

Best autoguiding solution out there!
This is my second SSAG. The first one used a self modified Meade finder scope and works great, but it is a pain to use across all my different scopes due to mounting differences. I finally got this one because of its vixen style mount and because it is already integrated into the finder!! Great innovative product!!!
